How Do I Write a Paper For this Class?
When writing a paper for this class English writing guidelines must be adhered to as well as the technical rules of citation, and bibliography. Below are the general rules to be used in formatting your pages. We will be using block formatting since we are preparing pages for importation to the Web.
- Assignments are to be typed on pages no larger that 8.5 x 11, single spaced, with a Serif font (Times New Roman, etc.) Use a 12 point font.
- Only one space must be inserted between all punctuation marks.
- Margins must be set to one inch on all sides of the paper.
- Paragraphs must not be indented one inch. Skip a line between paragraphs <ENTER>. There will be times when this is changed.
- Headers must be inserted on every page, but the first page in the upper right hand corner displaying the student's last name and period.
- Spell check. This is worth 10% of the paper.
Only at the mercy of the instructor will late work be accepted. Generally, late work will not be accepted unless you are excused from that day of class. If late work is accepted, then do not expect the instructor to work overtime to get a grade in for you. Your grade will be posted before the end of the quarter, but do not expect expedient treatment in getting your late grades posted.
The first page of your paper should look like this (note: the example below is just that...an example. The first four lines of the example below represent respectively the Title, Name, Period, and Date.):
***** BEGIN EXAMPLE *****
Caveat Emptor
