Which Browser?
For the last couple of years there has been a browser battle of sorts going on between the notorious Microsoft IE and its nemesis Mozilla Firefox. This site has seen the IE share drop from over 95% two years ago to just over 69%, and today it sits at around 58%. While Firefox saw its' market share rise from about 5% to over 27%, and down to 26% as of today. Just below Firefox, but above Safari, Netscape, Konqueror, and Camino is Opera. IE has had its share of security issues, but since it was not embedded with MS Vista a lot of these issues seem to have vanished. Firefox has been a mixed blessing with constant updates, crashes, etc., but it is the browser for the hip. It is just within the last few years that Opera has been offered for free. Of the three browsers highlighted here it is the one that should be on all desktops. It is free, and you may be surprised on just how far ahead of the playing field Opera has been all of these years. But, with all of this at hand it appears that our society is slowly refining the browser world according to our needs/wants: the "social browser" Flock. As of this writing the 'come from behind' contender is Safari. When we started tracking the various browsers, Safari had about 1.5% of the market share. As of today, 31 December, 2007, Safari has taken over 7.3% of the browsers. This could probably be attributed to two major components:
the increase of Mac sales, and the iPhone and iPod Touch sales which come with Safari.

Well, as of today February 12, 2008 Safari is one of my favorite browsers. Firefox crashes far too often, IE has security issues, Opera is not compatible with a lot of sites, Netscape is heading into oblivion, so...Safari. Not by default, buy by virtue of being one of the best out there.
